Informed by Buddhist philosophy and Insight meditation, Mindfulness is a form of meditation developed and extensively researched by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School for over 40 years.
Studies about the impact of Mindfulness on practitioners point to increased creativity and concentration, less stress, lower incidents of depression and better memory. In children and teens, it has been shown to aid emotional regulation, soften the intensity that comes with the periods of rapid brain development and greatly reduce anxiety. MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) and MBCT (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy) classes can be found throughout the world, offered to employees in multinationals and students as young as 5 years old in their classrooms.
For the last 3 years, Michele has been introducing simple meditation and deep relaxation techniques to primary and secondary school students in Dublin. She completed a Teen Yoga and Mindfulness programme in 2015, has recently concluded an 8 week MBSR course at The Mindfulness.ie Centre for Professional Studies in Dublin and will begin the Mindfulness in Schools Programme (MiSP) training in October 2016.
I thoroughly enjoyed the classes and always felt relaxed and rejuvenated after them. As an LC student we’re under lots of pressure so it’s really nice to relax each week. Michele is super, really patient with us, very knowledgeable and friendly.
The classes help me feel relaxed and energized after a hard day of school. I like the Sun Salutations and enjoy the relaxation because it helps me to clear my mind. Michele encourages us through the class and helps us to do all of the postures as best suits us. Each class is different and I look forward to it all day
